Oklahoma's Promise (OKPROM) is a scholarship provided by the state of Oklahoma. Students who meet the qualifications can apply in the eighth, ninth, and tenth grades (homeschool students must be ages 13, 14 or 15). To qualify, the federal adjusted gross income of the student's parents cannot exceed $60,000 with 1 or 2 dependent children OR $70,000 with 3 or 4 dependent children OR $80,000 with 5 or more dependent children. In addition, students must complete the required academic courses while in high school. After initial qualification, students must meet annual criteria to receive Oklahoma鈥檚 Promise funding, and are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year to determine ongoing eligibility.
For any year that the adjusted gross income reported on the student's current FAFSA exceeds $100,000, the student will not be eligible to receive the Oklahoma's Promise benefit. Any year that the student does not receive the award because the income exceeds the $100,000 limit will count toward the five-year scholarship eligibility period. Oklahoma's Promise will no longer pay for non-credit remedial courses. There will be 129 credit hour cap, which means that Oklahoma鈥檚 Promise will only cover 129 credit hours; however, exceptions will be made for programs that exceed 129 credit hours.
OTAG is a state-funded grant awarded by the State of Oklahoma. Eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA and by the OTAG residency requirements. OTAG is applied directly to the student's account and does not have to be repaid. Students must complete and submit the FAFSA by March 1 to be considered for OTAG. OTAG is not available to students who have already completed their first bachelor's degree.
